The problems facing America today are the direct result of our flawed voting system, a system that guarantees one thing: our votes don’t count. We saw this in 2000 when the Supreme Court gave the 2000 presidential election to George W. Bush. We saw it 2008 when the super-delegates decided the democratic presidential nominee. And we see it every time Registered Independent Voters do not having the right to vote in primaries or caucuses.

 

No matter what our party affiliation is, chances are we can agree on three things:

1. The issues are not being resolved.

2. The politicians are unable to resolve the issues.

3. Our politicians are not listening to us.

 

There is a way to change things for the better. We can make the decisions ourselves. The way we do this is by National Voting, which is the basis for One Person, One Vote. Here’s how it works:

1. Everyone gets to vote directly on the issues if they’re a citizen and 18 years of age.

  • We make our voices heard by sending our ideas, complaints and suggestions via e-mail, mail, fax or phone to a national center.
  • The issues that draw the most calls and mail become measures to vote on. This system is similar to gathering signatures on a petition.
  • Ten issues are voted on quarterly.
  • The ballots are sent to the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to be counted.
  • The outcome of that vote becomes law for ten years.
  • Any individual who knowingly goes against the wishes and the will of the American people will be subject to severe penalties.

 

National Voting will accomplish 4 things:

1. Everyone’s vote will count and everyone’s vote will be equal.

2. Lobbyists and special interests will lose their power.

3. Issues will be resolved.

4. Our votes will be protected; they won’t be tampered with (like fraudulent voting machines) or overturned.

 

One Person, One Vote is not about political parties anymore. It’s not about voting in people who will fix things for us. It’s about us voting directly on the issues.

 

It must be remembered that every movement in this country began with a simple idea from the American Revolution, to the abolition of slavery, to women’s voting rights, to the civil rights movement. Every constitutional amendment began by questioning why things were not working. Change grew from a groundswell of people wanted to see their country transformed. Now it’s up to us to transform the way we vote.

 

The time has come for us take charge of what we want for our country - not what the politicians want, not the president wants, not what the courts wants, and certainly not what the special interests and lobbyists want. Real change will only happen when we, the people, act for ourselves – and we do this through National Voting.
